Allandale Neighborhood Profile

If you're looking for great neighborhood to live in while enjoying all the splendors of Austin , you will want to consider Allandale. Situated north of North Loop , between MoPac and Burnet, and south of Anderson Lane , Allandale is a very family-friendly community with a generous sprinkling of professionals and retirees. It's a great place to enjoy yourself, a great place to shop and dine -- and, of course, a great place to live. It is considered one of the best places in Austin to raise a family, primarily for its location and for all its amenities.

Allandale real estate is not only affordable, but also stylish and pleasant. The Allandale real estate market is made up of mostly single-family homes, many of which are larger than average and are situated on larger-than-average lots. Many homes in the area offer you access to excellent schools, such as Brentwood Elementary School , McCallum High School , or Austin 's Fine Arts Academy . These schools have excellent reputations, strong AP programs, a host of extracurricular options, and everything else that students need to excel.

In addition to great location and great schooling, Allandale offers easy access to amenities, shopping, and dining. On Burnet Road you will find just about every type of service, product, and attraction you could crave. For example, try the famous Pacha eatery -- a perfect place to grab a coffee and a quick lunch or dinner. Mexican restaurants in the area, such as Taqueria Arandas and Curra's Grill, serve up delicious food in a wonderful atmosphere. Allandale is also home to Austin Diner, an excellent old-fashioned diner that serves up wonderful breakfasts, perfect for the whole family. If you're looking for after dinner drinks, The Poodle Dog Lounge is an excellent option in the Allandale area. If you're looking for something a little different, Sunday afternoon of “Chicken Shit Bingo” at Ginny's Little Longhorn Saloon should fit the bill. Of course, you can't live in Allandale without trying the wonderful burgers at Phil's Ice House. Next door is Amy's Ice Cream, legendary in Austin for the past two decades. MGM Indian Foods and H-E-B offer all the grocery shopping needed, from the most mundane grocery purchases to the most adventurous ethnic buys.

Once you're done shopping and dining, you will want some recreation. Allandale offers pottery classes at the Clayways studio and gallery. Two green spaces -- The Shoal Creek Greenbelt and Beverly S. Scheffield Northwest District Park -- offer plenty of space for outdoor activity. The District Park offers plenty of green area, as well as barbecue areas, picnic locations, a baseball diamond, pool, and a playground. The greenbelt offers plenty of hiking and biking opportunities. For additional ideas, simply consult the Allandale Reporter website, which lists the many events in the Allandale area.
